Learn to Ride Youth Session (FastTrack Drop-In)

Our Learn to Ride Youth Session is a single-session drop-in to the GVVA FastTrack Youth Program—the perfect opportunity for young riders to experience the excitement of velodrome cycling before committing to the full program.

Designed for youth who are comfortable riding a bicycle, this introductory session provides a fun, safe, and supportive environment where participants will learn the fundamentals of track cycling under the guidance of NCCP-certified coaches.

Who Can Participate?

This session is ideal for:

  • Youth 7–16 years old who can confidently ride a bicycle.
  • New cyclists 17–19 years old who are interested in learning track cycling.
  • Riders of all abilities. The Westshore Velodrome and GVVA FastTrack program are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will be introduced to:

  • Velodrome safety and etiquette
  • Basic track cycling skills
  • Riding a fixed-gear bicycle
  • Balance, control, and confidence on the track
  • Fun skill-building activities and games

Our coaching follows Cycling Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles, ensuring instruction is appropriate for each rider’s age and stage of development.

What’s Included

  • One coached FastTrack training session
  • Use of a GVVA fixed-gear track bicycle
  • Coaching by NCCP-certified instructors
  • A fun introduction to the exciting sport of track cycling

Please note: This drop-in session does not include GVVA membership or an annual track pass, which are included with full FastTrack program registration.

What to Bring

  • CSA-approved cycling helmet
  • Water bottle
  • Athletic clothing
  • Running shoes

Participants may bring their own cycling shoes and pedals if they wish.

  • Time: 4:15 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Location: Westshore Velodrome, behind the Q Centre, Juan de Fuca Recreation – Colwood, BC

This session is intended for riders who can already ride a bicycle independently. If your child is not yet able to ride on two wheels without assistance, please contact us before registering so we can help you find the most suitable program.

    2026 Junior General Membership (U19)

    A general member is insured under the GVVA insurance, as required by Cycling BC.  General membership is mandatory before entering special events such as GVVA hosted TrackFest I & II and mandatory before drop-in racing/training. A general membership is paid on an annual basis.
